Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has been accused of trying to sway witness, KZN Hawks Deena Govender, to implicate provincial commissioner, Nhlanhla Nkhwanazi, in the KZN police shootings.

KZN Hawks colonel, Deena Govender has told the Madlanga Commission that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was behind an alleged push to implicate KZN provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in 172 shootings.

Govender testified on Monday that Mchunu, speaking through his associate Mavuso Ntandani, allegedly instructed him to claim Mkhwanazi had ordered all the shootings.

Govender stated that the alleged meeting took place on August 20, with Ntandani and another person present.

He said Mchunu was called during the meeting and warned him not to let anyone “ruin the country”.
