KZN Hawks Colonel, Deena Govender, has returned to the Madlanga Commission on Monday to continue his testimony.
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Hawks colonel Deena Govender returns to the Madlanga Commission on Monday facing scrutiny over allegations linking him to a deadly 2023 police operation and more than R2 million in payments.
Govender has been implicated in alleged extra-judicial killings following the deaths of tow-truck operator Bevan Loftus and four other men during a police operation.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) officer Len John has accused Govender of receiving separate payments totalling more than R2 million around the time of the shooting, raising questions about possible links to the operation.
Govender rejected the allegations and maintains the operation was lawful, claiming the men were linked to drug-related crimes. “All the payments are legitimate,” he said.
