Ali Pishevarzadeh, a detainee from the January protests in Rasht, has been sentenced to death by Ahmad Darvish-Goftar, presiding judge of Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, following a trial session that lasted approximately five minutes.
Ahmad Darvish-Goftar is among the judges of the Rasht Revolutionary Court known for issuing harsh sentences, including capital punishment, against political prisoners and protesters across Gilan Province.
An informed source told IranWire that Pishevarzadeh’s court session lasted “roughly five minutes” and that he was subjected to severe physical beatings during the initial days of his detention before the issuance of the verdict.
On Tuesday morning, August 25, the “Committee to Follow Up the Status of Detainees” also reported the death sentence handed down to Pishevarzadeh. Information obtained by IranWire confirms that the ruling was issued by a court of first instance.
Ali Pishevarzadeh was arrested during nationwide protests on January 8 and 9 and is currently held in Lakan Prison in Rasht.
