Ali Pishevarzadeh, who was arrested during the January protests in Rasht, has been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of that city.
The Committee to Follow Up the Status of Detainees reported that Branch 2 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad-Ali Darvish-Goftar, issued the death sentence in the preliminary stage. Pishevarzadeh was detained during protests on January 8 and 9 and is currently being held in Lakan Prison in Rasht.
The exact charge leading to the death sentence, the date of the court hearing, and the procedural details of his case have not yet been disclosed. It remains unclear whether Pishevarzadeh had access to independent legal counsel during his interrogations and court proceedings.
Media outlets affiliated with the Islamic Republic previously aired a video featuring his forced "confessions," attributing the arson of several buildings in Rasht to him.
In the broadcast footage, Pishevarzadeh states that he manufactured several Molotov cocktails but threw only three into the street to create "chaos." In his recorded statements, he does not confirm the state media's claims regarding the arson of the specified buildings.
