A 17-year-old girl was killed and three other young people were injured when a car crashed into a utility pole in western Athens early Tuesday.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Fylis Avenue, when the car, carrying a group of five young people, veered off the road, hit the curb and smashed into a utility pole.
The impact caused the pole to buckle and collapse, while debris from the vehicle was scattered several meters from the crash site.
Firefighters were called to the scene to free the occupants from the badly damaged vehicle.
The 17-year-old died from her injuries. Three other occupants, aged between about 18 and 22, were hospitalized but were not believed to be in life-threatening condition, according to initial reports.
