An Athens taxi driver has been arrested at the capital’s busiest long-distance bus station for charging customers double the legal fare and driving despite having had his license suspended, police said.
A police statement said the 36-year-old man was taken into custody around midday Friday at the Kifissos station, which serves southern, western and northern central Greece, when he was operating the taxi meter at the special night-time rate.
The rate that comes into effect at midnight is twice the normal day-time charge.
Police also said the suspect also initially refused to give officers his particulars, and was driving the cab illegally as he had had his license suspended for ten days last week.
