Highways and ports are exceptionally busy Sunday as many of the summer holidaymakers return to Athens.
On the Athens-Corinth national road, traffic to Athens has stalled across several points between Agioi Theodoroi and the Elefsina toll booths, police reported Sunday afternoon.
In the port of Piraeus, some 32,000 passengers returned from the islands Saturday, but 17,000 departed for the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands and Crete. Returns are expected to increase Sunday.
In the other two Attiki ports, Rafina and Lavrio, east and southeast of the capital, there were about 10,000 departures and 15,000 returns Saturday.
