Distribution of welfare assistances and disbursement of loans for business/industrial units formed part of the Independence Day celebrations organised by the district administration in the central districts on Saturday.In Thanjavur, Collector R. Revathi hoisted the national flag and took the guard of honour presented by the District Police, National Cadet Corps, and Home Guard contingents. She honoured a group of ‘freedom fighter family’ members and presented ‘police medals’ and ‘certificate of meritorious service’ to the government servants on the occasion. She distributed financial assistance for business/industrial activities totalling ₹15.12 lakh to eight persons and welfare assistance worth ₹1.16 crore to 21 persons under various welfare schemes implemented by the government.Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Thanjavur Range) Ziaul Haque, Superintendent of Police A. Sundaravathanam, and District Revenue Officer K. Ilangovan participated in the celebrations at the Armed Reserve Police Parade Grounds, Thanjavur.Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Anjugam Bhoopathi hoisted the tri-colour on the lawns of the Thanjavur Corporation office and distributed welfare assistances to the employees.At the Independence Day celebrations held at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, located at Melavasthachavadi on the outskirts of Thanjavur town, Director V. Palanimuthu hoisted the national flag and urged the students to develop multidisciplinary capabilities in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, automation, digital manufacturing, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and sustainable food systems.At the Tamil University, Thanjavur, the national flag was hoisted by Syndicate member P. Bharathajothi. The Registrar (in-charge), G. Panneerselvam, participated.At the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam Division headquarters at Kumbakonam, General Manager K. Singaravelan hoisted the national flag and distributed prizes to select employees for their meritorious service to the Corporation and to the commuters.Medals distributedMedals and certificates of meritorious service were presented to 506 government employees by Collector V. Mohanachandran at the Independence Day celebrations held at Tiruvarur on August 15.Welfare assistance totalling ₹2.66 lakh was distributed to 21 beneficiaries on the occasion by the Collector who had earlier hoisted the tri-colour at the function held at the District Sports Stadium on the outskirts of Tiruvarur.A guard of honour was presented to the Collector by the District Police, the NCC, and the Home Guard contingents. Superintendent of Police V. Sathishkumar, District Revenue Officer B. Kalaivani and others participated in the celebrations when the kin of freedom fighters were honoured.Later, participating in the grama sabha meeting held at the Sithamalli Melpathi panchayat in Needamangalam Panchayat Union, the Collector honoured six conservancy workers.
