Collector M. Prathap releases tricolour balloons on Independence Day at Nagercoil on Kanniyakumari on Saturday.

Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap hoisted the tricolour flag and honoured government officials and employees during the 80th Independence Day celebrations held at Arignar Anna stadium in Nagercoil on Saturday.Mr. Prathap, along with District Superintendent of Police R. Stalin, inspected the guard of honour by police and took the salute from police and Fire and Rescue Service personnel, home guards and NCC cadets.The Collector distributed welfare assistance worth ₹14.12 crores to 44 beneficiaries under various departments including social welfare, horticulture, agriculture and farmers’ welfare and others.He also presented certificates of appreciation to 400 government officials and employees of various departments.In addition, certificates of appreciation were presented to Yuva Aapda Mitra volunteers, including Monika, Dhaksin, Subesh of NCC, Akshaya and Nithish Kumar of NSS and Jijo and Shakthi of Nehru Yuva Kendra. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to 24 officers who performed well at the model polling booths for persons with disabilities during the elections.Certificates were also presented to four sportspersons who won medals at national and international athletic events.Kanniyakumari MP Vijay Vasanth, District Forest Officer A.
