Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap on Thursday emphasised that all department officers should work together to make Kanniyakumari district a ‘self-sufficient’ one.He was speaking at the mass contact programme organised by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department at Vellichanthai.Addressing the event, Mr. Prathap said public relations camps were being conducted with the objective of the government reaching out to the people and addressing their grievances. As part of the initiative, petitions were received from the concerned villages a couple of weeks before the camp.He added that action was being taken on petitions that could be resolved immediately, such as patta amendments, old-age pension and new family cards, and welfare assistance was also being handed over to beneficiaries at the public relations camps. He noted that proper investigations would be conducted into land-related demands and necessary action would be expedited.Highlighting the need for the public to be aware of and make use of ongoing welfare schemes, he mentioned various initiatives, including glasses for sanitation workers, farmers’ protection schemes, financial assistance for higher education and various loans for Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs).Referring to the delay in providing housing land pattas due to the shortage of land in the district, he added that steps were being taken to identify eligible persons and allocate land.At the mass contact programme, the Collector distributed welfare assistance worth ₹4 lakh to 187 beneficiaries from the district.District Revenue Officer M.
