Collector Vishu Mahajan hoisted the national flag and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹10.92 crore to 166 beneficiaries during the 80th Independence Day celebrations held at Tharuvai Grounds here on Saturday.Mr. Mahajan inspected the guard of honour of the police and took the salute, along with District Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad, from police and fire and rescue services personnel, NCC cadets and home guards. He honoured 445 government employees from various departments and presented them with certificates for their meritorious work. In addition, 55 members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides were also honoured with certificates.Mr. Mahajan also distributed welfare assistance worth ₹10.92 to 166 beneficiaries.Students of various schools, including Gin Factory Corporation Middle School, Victoria Girls Higher Secondary School, BMC Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Karapettai Nadar Girls Higher Secondary School, presented cultural programmes.District Revenue Officer M. Guruchandran, District Forest Officer M. Ilayaraja, Corporation Commissioner S. Priyanka, Rural Development Agency project director N. Saravanan and other officials were present.
