The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts on Saturday (August 15, 2026).Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath hoisted the national flag at a function held at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, and accepted the guard of honour. The Collector honoured the family members of freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance worth ₹1.60 crore to 18 beneficiaries. He also distributed certificates of appreciation to 533 officials and staff, including 133 from the Police Department and 400 from other departments. Prizes were awarded to six doctors for their services and to bank branches based on the loans provided to women’s self-help groups. About 670 students from five schools performed cultural events as part of the celebrations. Later, the Collector participated in the Grama Sabha meeting held at Vellakalpatti panchayat in Omalur panchayat union and discussed the schemes implemented in the panchayat.

Namakkal District Collector L. Madhubalan hoisted the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations at Namakkal in Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
