The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety across the delta districts on Monday with District Collectors hoisting the national flag.

Ceremonial parades, cultural programmes, distribution of welfare assistance and honouring freedom fighters and government officials for exemplary service marked the occasion.

In Thanjavur, Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the ceremonial police guard of honour. Freedom fighters and their descendants were honoured with khadi shawls.

Welfare assistance worth ₹98.45 lakh was distributed to 25 beneficiaries under various programmes including annual maintenance grants for families of deceased and disabled soldiers, support for persons with disabilities, horticulture and agriculture engineering benefits, agricultural inputs, entrepreneurship assistance through the District Industries Centre, and livelihood support schemes.

The Collector presented the Chief Minister’s Police Medals to 86 police personnel and appreciation certificates to 349 government officials. Cultural performances by over 250 students from government, aided, and matriculation schools were staged.
