Honouring of freedom fighters marked the celebration of the 80th Independence Day at the Virudhunagar district on Saturday.In the presence of Superintendent of Police Gautam Goyal, Virudhunagar District Collector N O Sukhaputra hoisted the national flag and took the salute.The students from various educational institutions presented a cultural event, which drew applause from the audience. On the occasion, the Collector honoured employees with certificate of merits from various departments. The NGOs and volunteers, who had served during the festivals, were also honoured.Deputy Director (Srivilliputtur Megamalai Tiger Reserve) Ravi Meena, Sub Collector Mohamed Irfan, DRO Anandhi and among other officers participated on the occasion.SivagangaSivaganga District Collector P. After inspecting a guard of honour, the Collector honoured the freedom fighters and their families.On the occasion, the Collector also presented welfare schemes to the beneficiaries and certificates of merit was presented to 52 police personnel and other officials from various departments.The students’ from various schools presented a cultural program. Additional Collector Ayush Venkat Vats, MLAs Kulanthai Rani Nachiar and Illangovan participated.RamanathapuramRamanathapuram District Collector Sivaguru Prabhakaran hoisted the national flag and gave away welfare assistance to 53 beneficiaries worth ₹32.09 lakh on the occasion.A total of 831 students presented cultural programmes and the Collector honoured 487 employees and officers from various departments, including 79 police personnel, for their commendable works in the district.DIG of Police (Ramanathapuram Range) N Manivannan, SP G Chandeesh, Additional Collector (Development) Divyan Shenegan, DRO V Sankara Narayanan and other officers participated.The Principal District Judge T V Mani hoisted the national flag at the District Court complex where senior judicial officers, including Shanti, Mohanram, Jaya Sudakar, Mumtaz and District Legal Services Authority secretary Baskar, Bar Association president Anbuchezian, secretary Muthu Duraisami and others participated.In the Ramanathapuram, Government Medical College, Dean R Amudha Rani was the chief guest, who hoisted the flag and took the salute.
