The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Armed Reserve Police ground at 46 Pudur, Anakalpalayam, on Saturday (August 15, 2026).District Collector S. Kandasamy hoisted the national flag and, accompanied by Superintendent of Police D.V. Kiran Shruthi, inspected the police parade in an open jeep and received the ceremonial salute.Mr. Kandasamy, Ms. Kiran Shruthi and District Revenue Officer S. Santhakumar also released tricolour balloons. The Collector honoured 90 freedom fighters and their legal heirs by presenting them shawls and mementos. Certificates of appreciation were presented to 148 government officials, employees and volunteers for their exemplary service.The district administration distributed welfare assistance worth ₹57.02 lakh to 38 beneficiaries under various government schemes. Cultural programmes were presented by 678 students from eight schools, and the Collector presented certificates and shields to the participants.Security was stepped up across the district in view of Independence Day. Vehicles were subjected to thorough checks and police personnel maintained heightened surveillance at crowded places, places of worship, bus stands, and railway stations.Independence Day was also celebrated across educational institutions in the district, with students participating in various programmes.
