Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the district for the 80th Independence Day celebrations on Saturday, with over 800 police personnel deployed at key locations and the main venue.The district-level celebrations will be held at the Armed Reserve Ground at Anakalpalayam in 46 Pudur panchayat. Police secured the venue on Thursday and installed barricades and metal detectors. Visitors will be subjected to security screening before being allowed inside. District Collector S. Kandasamy will hoist the National Flag and receive the guard of honour.Security has also been strengthened at religious places, vital installations and other important public locations. Police teams are keeping a round-the-clock vigil, while lodges across the district are being inspected.At the railway station, passenger baggage is being checked, and additional personnel have been deployed at the central bus terminal to prevent any untoward incident.Vehicles entering the district through inter-State check-posts are being thoroughly checked. Special vigil has been maintained at Karapallam near Hasanur on National Highway 948 and at Bargur on the Anthiyur–Kollegal road. Armed police personnel have also been deployed along the railway track crossing the Cauvery.A senior police officer said the arrangements were aimed at ensuring peaceful and incident-free celebrations. The police appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow the instructions issued at the venues and other public places.
