Security arrangements at the Red Fort have been strengthened with a multi-layered anti-terror response plan, over 1,000 CCTV cameras with AI-based video analytics ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, a senior police officer said on Friday.A huge crowd accumulates at Delhi's Red Fort or Lal Quila every year to witness the annual event in person. (Raj K Raj/Hindustan Times)Security agencies have also carried out mock drills and advance liaison with various stakeholders to ensure better coordination during the celebrations."Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in view of incidents reported in the national capital last year, with a focus on ensuring that people attending the celebrations face minimum inconvenience," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia told PTI.Also Read | Independence Day 2026 PM Modi speech: Where to watch live, timing and key details"We have elaborate security arrangements this time, keeping in mind the incidents witnessed in the national capital last year," Banthia said.The security plan includes multiple layers of checking and screening at and around the Red Fort, along with an anti-terror response plan to deal with any possible threat or emergency situation, the officer said."Advance liaison, mock drills and advance intimation have been carried out so that all agencies are prepared and there is a coordinated response in case of any emergency," the DCP said.More than 1,000 CCTV cameras have been deployed inside and outside the Red Fort to keep a close watch on the area, he said.Also Read | Freedom the same night, but different dates: Why Pakistan marks its Independence Day on August 14The cameras are linked with systems equipped with AI-based video analytics, while live feeds are being monitored from a dedicated control room, the DCP said.The surveillance system will enable security personnel to detect suspicious activity, crowd-related issues or any other law and order situation and respond immediately, he said."Whatever law and order situation is noticed, we will immediately respond.
