Security beefed up in coastal district ahead of I-Day celebration in southern TN

As part of the security arrangements at vital installations ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the Railway police deployed armed security personnel at the Pamban rail bridge on Thursday.

Ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations on Saturday (August 15), the police beefed up security along the coastal lines in southern Tamil Nadu from Thursday as a precautionary measure.The officers deployed personnel in coastal pockets and ensured that there were no intrusions through the sea route.In Ramanathapuram district, apart from deploying police personnel on the beaches at Arichalmunai and other locations, armed police were posted at the Pamban Railway Bridge and other vital installations.A senior officer said the pickets would continue till Saturday evening and surveillance in the region would be intensified.
