In a swift police operation, two suspects were apprehended in connection with a mass shooting in Langa.
The Alliance of Citizens for Change (ACC) has condemned the horrific weekend shootings that claimed 11 lives in Langa, Khayelitsha, and Gugulethu.
With 11 individuals dead, and communities gripped by fear and families left grieving the ACC has urgently called upon acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, SAPS management, the South African National Defence Force, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, and the City of Cape Town to confront the killings as a critical public-security crisis.
ACC president Masizole Mnqasela said: “We demand immediate arrests, successful prosecutions and a co-ordinated intelligence-led crackdown on gangs, organised criminal networks and the illegal firearms fuelling violence in our communities.”
“SAPS must strengthen crime intelligence, detective capacity and forensic investigations, while increasing targeted policing in known crime hotspots. Communities and witnesses who provide information must be protected from criminal syndicates,” he added.
