A woman was briefly arrested on Monday after slapping her 6-year-old son on a beach in the municipality of Aigialeia in the Peloponnese.

A bather who witnessed the incident called the police, stating that she saw the woman slapping the boy forcefully. Officers who rushed to the scene arrested both the mother and father of the child.

The boy was transferred to Karamandaneio Hospital on a prosecutor’s order until the case is resolved.

The parents were subsequently released pending trial.
