The Athens Stock Exchange posted mild gains Friday, overcoming initial selling pressure and ending the week 1.8% higher.

The General Index closed at 2,615.07, up 0.25%. Turnover was somewhat lower, at €238.89 million. Blue chips gained 0.28% and the Banks sub-index ended up 0.16%. Mid-caps gained 0.21%.

OTE led all blue chips with a 2.01% gain. Alpha Bank, Eurobank, Bank of Cyprus, PPC, Coca-Cola HBC, Allwyn and Lamda Development ended over 1% higher. CrediaBank (-2.67%) led the blue chip loser and Optima Bank, GEK Terna, EYDAP, Aktor and Titan ended more than 1% lower.

A Morgan Stanley note published Friday placed Athens as one of the markets primed to outperform in August, saying Athens has performed strongly on the back of corporate profitability.
