Temperatures across parts of Bulgaria are expected to climb to as high as 40 degrees Celsius this weekend, prompting meteorologists to issue yellow and orange weather warnings for dangerously hot conditions in several regions. The alerts are intended to warn of heat that could pose health risks, although forecasters say the situation remains less severe than the extreme heat affecting parts of Central and Western Europe.

Orange alerts have been issued for Western Bulgaria, parts of Central Bulgaria, the Upper Thracian Plain, and southwestern regions of the country. Many areas have already experienced four to five consecutive days of daytime temperatures reaching around 35 degrees Celsius, with the prolonged heat taking its toll on residents.

Forecasters say some relief is on the way, with temperatures expected to ease slightly on Sunday as unstable weather begins to develop. According to Anastasia Kirilova of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, "The first signs of change on Sunday will be short-term rainfall and thunderstorms in many parts of the country."

She added that isolated showers and the possibility of hail are expected on Saturday in parts of Western and Northern Bulgaria. "On Sunday, precipitation will affect more areas," Kirilova said.
