The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow weather warning for dangerously high temperatures across 21 regions of Bulgaria on Wednesday, August 5, as the country braces for another day of intense summer heat.

Forecasters expect daytime temperatures to exceed 35 degrees Celsius in some areas. The warning covers the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra, Shumen, Varna, Sliven, Yambol, Burgas, Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Kardzhali, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil.

Health authorities advise people to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, particularly between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The recommendation is especially important for older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions.

Doctors also urge residents to stay well hydrated, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use hats or other sun protection when outside.

The hot weather also increases the risk of wildfires. Fire safety officials are reminding the public not to light fires outdoors, discard cigarettes carelessly or carry out activities that could generate sparks near dry vegetation, where fires can spread rapidly under the current conditions.
