MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rainfall is forecast to persist over parts of the country on Friday, due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, as former tropical depression Maymay weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA), the state weather bureau reported.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obet Badrina said during the 5 a.m weather advisory that the typhoon outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), internationally named Dolphin, is expected to intensify the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas until weekend.

“We expect the southwest monsoon to maintain its strength, continuing to bring rainy weather through the weekend. Our fellow citizens—especially those in large parts of Luzon, the western section of Luzon, and the western section of the Visayas—should prepare for this,” he reported.
