I’m from a small town called Svaneke on the eastern coast of Bornholm, a Danish island south-east of the mainland. It’s old and beautifully preserved, with winding streets lined with colourful buildings and blooming mulberry trees in summer.

Those who leave Svaneke often return later in life; I believe that’s to do with the town’s creative spirit and strong sense of community. When I was growing up, my father was a ceramicist. He trained with his childhood friend, Torben Lov, who to this day runs Lov i Listed, a studio and shop a short walk from Svaneke. It’s only open to the public once a month and people line up from early in the morning to get in.
