Firefighters were battling a wildfire that broke out in low vegetation in the Driggia area of Koropi, southeast of Athens, on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Fire Service was alerted to the blaze at around 1.45 p.m. local time. A total of 52 firefighters, including three groups from the 1st EMODE, and 14 vehicles were deployed to the scene.
Four helicopters and two water-dropping aircraft were also taking part in the operation, with one helicopter assigned to coordinate the aerial response.
The municipality of Kropia was assisting the firefighting effort with water tankers, while the Fire Service operations center monitored the situation through drone footage from thermal and optical cameras.
The area was under a very high wildfire risk alert, classified as Category 4.
