A 54-year-old man has been detained in the Bulgarian town of Lyaskovets on suspicion of severely assaulting the woman he lived with, police said.
The investigation began after the 49-year-old woman sought help at the Gorna Oryahovitsa District Police Office on the morning of August 4. She told officers that her partner had repeatedly beaten her between August 1 and August 3.
Emergency medical personnel examined the woman before she was transferred to a hospital in Veliko Tarnovo for further treatment.
Doctors found that she had suffered serious injuries, including fractures to her skull and ribs. She was admitted to a specialized medical facility, where she remains under care.
The suspected attacker was taken into custody for up to 24 hours.
