Sea erosion has been reported in Hejmady, Padubidri, Kaup, Mulur and Mattu areas of Udupi district.On Sunday, Kapu MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty inspected the erosion-hit areas along with Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa.Mr. Shetty instructed the Deputy Commissioner to release funds immediately from the Calamity Relief Fund to take up emergency preventive works.Officials of the Ports and Inland Water Transport Department were present on the occasion.Udupi MLA visits Malpe portMeanwhile, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna visited Malpe fishing harbour on Saturday, to inspect preparations for fishing activities as the 61-day annual fishing holiday came to an end on Friday.He instructed port officials to complete the new entrance gate project at the earliest and remove sand accumulated in the parking area to allow vehicles to be parked there.The MLA also instructed them to provide necessary cooperation to rickshaw drivers in shifting the rickshaw parking stand to a suitable place already identified in view of the widening of the port’s exit gate.He said necessary measures such as adequate street lighting, cleanliness of the port, deployment of security personnel and installation of CCTV cameras should be taken up immediately, and fishermen should be ensured that they do not face any problems.
