Two houses in Udupi district were partially damaged and 84 electric poles of MESCOM were damaged in Dakshina Kannada due to heavy rain in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Thursday.Light to moderate rain continued across the coastal belt on the day.A residence in Hadavu village in Byndoor taluk and another in Haklady in Kundapur taluk in Udupi district were partially damaged. Revenue Department officials estimated the total loss to the houses at ₹65,000.Udupi district recorded 40.9 mm rainfall in the 24 hours. The maximum rainfall of 95.9 mm was recorded in Byndoor taluk and the minimum 14.4 mm in Brahmavar taluk.Dakshina KannadaAccording to the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority, in addition to the 84 electric poles, 4.2 km of electric power lines were damaged in the district in rain-related incidents.Dakshina Kannada recorded 52.1 mm rainfall in 24 hours against the normal 42 mm for the same period.The maximum rainfall of 64.7 mm was recorded in Ullal taluk and the minimum 31.7 mm in Mulky taluk.Meanwhile, all schools, anganwadis and pre-university colleges in the district remained closed on the day due to a holiday declared by the district administration in view of the red alert for extremely heavy rain.
