Rain and heavy winds damaged as many as 39 houses in Udupi district. The rain lasted 24 hours, ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday.Of the houses damaged, 18 were in Brahmavar taluk, 11 in Kundapur taluk, four in Karkala taluk, three in Byndoor taluk, two in Kaup taluk, and one in Hebri taluk, according to the office of Udupi Deputy Commissioner.Horticultural crops of three farmers were damaged in Udupi district.The district recorded 52.3 mm of rainfall during the period. The highest rainfall of 68.3 mm was in Hebri taluk, and the minimum rainfall of 31.1 mm was in Brahmavar taluk.Meanwhile, traffic on the Mani-Mysuru National Highway 275 came to a halt for some time on Tuesday after a tree fell on the highway near Mani. Students and office-goers faced difficulty due to the incident. Traffic resumed after the tree was removed by officials.The Dakshina Kannada Disaster Management Authority said 159 electric poles, two transformers, and 7.95 km of power supply lines of Mescom were damaged due to the rain in Dakshina Kannada in 24 hours.The district recorded 58.8 mm rainfall during the period against the normal rainfall of 35.5 mm.Belthangady taluk recorded the maximum rainfall of 82.2 mm, and Mulky taluk the minimum of 21.5 mm during the period.
