Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty on Friday, told Minister U.T. Khader that uninterrupted power supply was affected in his constituency following staff shortage with Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) and urged the government to immediately address the issue.He was speaking at a review meeting chaired by Mr. Khader, who is in-charge of mitigating natural calamities in Udupi district. Mr. Shetty said whenever power supply gets disrupted due to heavy rains and winds, the restoration takes place nearly after a day.Also, the MLA told the Minister that some roads in his constituency have become battered following non-repair for a long time and due to rains. They need to be restored immediately.Responding to his submission, Mr. Khader directed MESCOM that if the Company was facing shortage of linesmen, it should procure their services through outsourcing. MESCOM should immediately respond to disruption and keep the helpline operational round-the-clock. He noted that the company suffered a loss of ₹31.71 lakh since April this year due to rain and winds.Mr. Khader also directed public works and Zilla Panchayat engineering departments to attend to battered roads on priority. He also directed the forest department to remove trees if they were found to be dangerous to public life and work in coordination with local administration.The Minister told the Revenue Department to immediately respond to natural calamities and disburse compensation on priority. Officials should immediately visit the affected persons and provide them required material, including food, bedding etc., besides paying ₹5,500 as the immediate compensation.Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa, Coastal Development Board Chairman M.A. Gafoor and others were present.Earlier, Mr. Khader visited Kaup Light House and surrounding areas to inspect sea erosion in the region.
