Athens authorities closed Lycabettus and Filopappou hills to all visitors and vehicles at midnight Friday until further notice because of an extreme wildfire risk.

The city, under the highest fire danger level, has placed all municipal services on heightened alert, deploying police patrols, drones equipped with thermal cameras and water tankers to monitor green spaces.

Officials also urged residents to avoid outdoor activities that could spark fires through Sunday, including welding, grinding and the use of open flames.
