MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives should start tackling bills that seek to amend Republic Act No. 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira) of 2001 if the chamber is really serious in lowering the expenses of households, Quezon City Rep. Patrick Michael Vargas said.
Vargas in a statement on Friday said that he filed House Bill (HB) No. 10306 which seeks to amend Epira and rationalize system loss charges — in response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call in his fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona) last Monday.
“Malinaw ang mensahe ng Pangulo—dapat gumaan ang pasanin ng mamamayan sa kuryente. Sa HB 10306, tinatama natin ang matagal nang mali kung saan ang inefficiencies sa sistema ay ipinapasa pa sa konsyumer,” Vargas said.
(The President’s message is clear — the people’s burden in terms of electricity should be lightened. Under HB 10306, we will correct a longstanding problem where inefficiencies in a system are passed to a consumer.)
