MANILA, Philippines — After more than 30 years since the first Freedom of Information measure was introduced in Congress, lawmakers on Tuesday renewed efforts to formally guarantee Filipinos’ right to access government information through the proposed Right to Information Act of 2026.
During the plenary session of the House of Representatives, House Committee on Public Information Chairperson Rep. Lordan Suan, Vice Chairperson and Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Brian Poe, and Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers party-List Rep. Antonio Tinio delivered sponsorship speeches urging the swift passage of the measure.
The lawmakers emphasized that the proposed legislation is a critical reform aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and democratic participation in government.
