The MK Party has submitted a Private Member’s Bill seeking to abolish IDAC and transfer its investigative and prosecutorial functions to the Hawks and National Prosecuting Authority.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has submitted a Private Member's Bill to Parliament seeking to abolish the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) and transfer its functions to the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The party confirmed on Thursday that it had submitted the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption Abolition Bill, 2026 to Parliament's Legislative Drafting and Legal Services Office for processing.
MK Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said the Bill had been introduced "in accordance with the procedures governing Private Members' Legislative Proposals and Bills".
He said the proposed legislation sought "to abolish the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) and to reintegrate its investigative functions into the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) and its prosecutorial functions into the ordinary structures of the National Prosecuting Authority, while preserving specialised anti-corruption capacity within those institutions".
