Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi and the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Advocate Andy Mothibi said IDAC will undergo a comprehensive six-month reset.
The government has rejected calls to disband the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), instead unveiling an extensive reform programme aimed at restoring public confidence following the resignation of its former head, Advocate Andrea Johnson.
Addressing a media briefing on Thursday, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi and the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Advocate Andy Mothibi, said the directorate would undergo a comprehensive six-month reset that includes staff vetting, lifestyle audits, disciplinary action against implicated officials, a full audit of corruption cases and possible legislative amendments to strengthen oversight and accountability.
Kubayi said President Cyril Ramaphosa's acceptance of Johnson's resignation earlier this week created an opportunity to reposition the anti-corruption unit while reinforcing its institutional integrity.
She acknowledged growing public concern over recent allegations involving Johnson and several investigators but insisted that dismantling the directorate would be the wrong response.
