Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has shot down calls to disband the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) following the revelations that were exposed at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Kubayi said the calls from some sections of society and political parties for IDAC to be disbanded following revelations about former IDAC head Andrea Johnson and the institution’s investigators are without foundation and cannot be supported.
“Those who are making these calls must disabuse themselves of the tendency to reduce institutions to individuals. Individuals in organisations come and go, but institutions remain, and we must defend and protect institutions because they are formed to fulfil a societal need rather than the agendas of individuals.”
She made the statement when she and National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi briefed the media on Thursday, as the MK Party announced that it has submitted a Private Member’s Bill to Parliament aimed at abolishing the corruption-busting body that was formed 18 months ago.
