Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Andy Mothibi have expressed concern over allegations emerging from the Madlanga Commission relating to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), saying the claims have raised questions about the unit’s credibility and public trust.
The concerns follow testimony before the commission in which witnesses made serious allegations regarding the conduct of IDAC officials and its head.
In a joint statement issued, Kubayi and Mothibi said the developments had prompted an urgent meeting with the IDAC Investigating Director to discuss the allegations and identify measures to restore confidence in the anti-corruption unit.
“This has raised serious credibility concerns and has visibly impacted on public trust in the IDAC operations,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the meeting was convened to “address these concerns and formulate practical solutions that will build public trust in institutions of government that are entrusted to deal with criminality.”
