An evacuation by sea was underway on Friday in Agios Vasileios, a coastal settlement in the central Greek regional unit of Viotia on the Gulf of Corinth, with residents and vacationers boarding several small vessels as a fast-moving wildfire threatened the area.
Speaking to Kathimerini English Edition while waiting to board one of the boats, tourist Katerina Karanatsi said she had no idea where the evacuees would be taken.

The wildfire broke out in agricultural and forest land near the settlement and spread around it, leaving about 500 people, most of them vacationers, stranded as strong winds fueled the flames.
