Samoa's Commonwealth Games medal hopes in the men's 110kg weightlifting event ended when Jack Hitila Opeloge was unable to complete his opening lift in the clean and jerk at the SEC Armadillo in Glasgow on Thursday.

After recording a best snatch of 159kg, Opeloge needed a successful clean and jerk to stay in medal contention. He called for 210kg on all three attempts but was unable to complete the lift, leaving him without an official total and recorded as DNF (did not finish).

The 25-year-old made a solid start in the snatch, successfully lifting 159kg on his opening attempt. He then increased the weight to 165kg for his second and third attempts but could not complete either lift.

With several competitors posting strong totals, Opeloge opted to open his clean and jerk campaign at 210kg. However, he was unsuccessful on all three attempts, ending his competition without a total.

Fiji's Taniela Tuisuva Rainibogi claimed the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 378kg. England's Cyrille Tchatchet II took silver with 374kg, while Canada's Xavier Lusignan secured bronze with 356kg.
