Murder-accused Duncan Hoorn is expected to tak eto the stand on Monday
After weeks of hearing evidence from family members, police officers, forensic experts and leading medical specialists, the murder trial of Duncan Hoorn could soon enter one of its most anticipated phases with the accused himself expected to possibly take the witness stand.
The possibility emerged in the Western Cape High Court, currently sitting in the Wynberg Regional Court, after the defence requested that proceedings be postponed until next week Monday, saying it had been unable to get hold of two witnesses it hopes to call before deciding on its next move.
Hoorn has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the administration of justice in connection with the death of his wife, Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn.
Addressing Acting Judge Amanda van Leeve, after the State formally closed its case, defence advocate Gilbert Jose thanked the court for its "indulgence", saying the defence had been caught by surprise by the prosecution concluding its evidence.
