Harbour police at the northwestern port of Igoumenitsa have seized a shipment of marijuana with an estimated street value of more than €2 million concealed in a truck that had arrived by ferry from Italy, authorities said Wednesday.

A Coast Guard statement said that the 54-year-old Greek driver of the heavy vehicle was arrested and faces charges of breaking narcotics laws.

The statement said the suspect was taken into custody late Tuesday after a search of the truck by officers with sniffer dogs revealed 92.5 kilograms of marijuana, as well as more than 100 grams of methadone.

The truck was confiscated. The origin and final destination of the drugs were not immediately clear.
