Bulgarian authorities have intercepted a large shipment of marijuana worth nearly 500,000 euros at the Gueshevo border checkpoint, after customs officers discovered the drugs hidden inside a truck entering Bulgaria from North Macedonia.
The vehicle, carrying Albanian license plates, was selected on June 6 for a detailed customs inspection, according to the Customs Agency. During the search, officers found six bags containing a green plant substance with a strong odor concealed in a specially built compartment inside the tractor cab.
Customs officials reported that a field test confirmed the substance reacted positively for marijuana. The total quantity seized was 60.920 kilograms, with an estimated value of 498,366.42 euros.
The truck driver, a 28-year-old Albanian citizen, attempted to flee the scene after the discovery but was quickly detained outside the checkpoint by Border Police units.
