Nearly 48 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated value exceeding 4.4 million euros have been seized in a coordinated operation by Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security (SANS), customs officials, and the prosecutor’s office near the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.

The operation was launched following intelligence provided by SANS and took place in a parking area close to the border crossing. Authorities inspected a cargo truck with Danish transit registration, which had traveled from Belgium through Bulgaria en route to Turkey.

During a detailed inspection of the vehicle’s fuel tank, officers discovered four bags containing 43 individually packed bundles of a white powdery substance. Field testing confirmed the substance reacted positively for cocaine. The total quantity seized was 47.910 kilograms, with an estimated value of 4,409,278.92 euros based on judicial pricing standards.

Investigators noted that the shipment had been concealed in a specially modified compartment, indicating a pre-planned smuggling operation. The truck had been left in a parking area near the border when it was checked by customs teams.

A pre-trial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office as authorities continue work on the case and trace those responsible for the attempted trafficking operation.
