A large-scale police operation targeting drug trafficking was carried out early Friday in Sofia's Hristo Botev neighborhood, which was placed under a heavy police presence as officers moved into the area before dawn.

The operation, led by the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry (SDVR), focused on combating the distribution of narcotics and involved coordinated actions at multiple locations throughout the district. Police teams conducted searches, arrests, and a series of procedural and investigative measures at various addresses.

Authorities reported that a significant quantity of drugs was seized during the operation. According to information released during the day, law enforcement officers detained a number of individuals identified as major participants in local drug distribution networks.

Initial reports indicated that 11 suspects had been taken into custody. As the operation progressed and additional actions were carried out, the number of arrests rose, with authorities later reporting that 20 people had been detained.

The Interior Ministry said the operation remains ongoing, with investigators continuing their work on the ground. Searches and evidence-gathering activities are still being conducted as police seek to establish the full scope of the alleged drug-trafficking activity.
