Police on Wednesday carried out a large-scale operation across the Athens region aimed at dismantling a criminal organization suspected of trafficking drugs and weapons, authorities said.
The operation was led by the Athens Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation, with support from the OPKE and EKAM special police units.
By Wednesday morning, authorities had arrested eight alleged members of the gang, which is believed to have been active for at least the past eight months, police said.
Among those detained is the alleged leader of the organization. Police also said they seized quantities of cocaine and ammunition during the operation.
