Police on the Ionian island of Zakynthos have dismantled an alleged drug and weapons trafficking ring, arresting several suspects and seizing a cache of firearms and ammunition, authorities said.

Investigators identified three alleged core members of the group – two 41-year-old men and a 19-year-old.

During searches, officers discovered a concealed weapons arsenal hidden behind a false wall inside a wardrobe and accessible through a coded mechanism. The stash included nine pistols, 22 magazines, 2,372 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, a pistol-to-rifle conversion kit, handcuffs, a brass knuckle, seven knives, an ax and 13 gold sovereigns.

In addition to the three alleged ringleaders, police arrested a 66-year-old man on weapons charges after finding a shotgun, a bulletproof vest, ammunition and a folding baton in his possession. A 40-year-old man was also arrested for possessing a small quantity of cocaine.

All those arrested were brought before a prosecutor, while the investigation continues.
