A car chase near the northwestern town of Ioannina Thursday led to the seizure of 167 kilograms of marijuana, authorities said.
A police statement said the car driver was arrested and faced charges of drugs smuggling, highway code breaches, forgery and immigration violations. The suspect was only identified as a foreign national.
Police initially tried to stop the car for an inspection, but the driver sped off, leading pursuing officers on a long and dangerous chase before he was brought to bay and detained. The car had fake foreign number plates, police said.
