A police investigation into the alleged illegal breeding of animals led to the discovery of a large weapons cache at the home of a 56-year-old man in Oinoi, western Attica, authorities said.
Police launched the operation after receiving information about possible animal welfare violations and searched the man’s residence, where they found what authorities described as an improvised breeding facility along with a significant quantity of firearms and ammunition.
Outside the house, officers found nine dogs, four puppies and a horse that were allegedly being kept in conditions that failed to meet legally required animal welfare standards. Authorities said the relevant services were notified, following a prosecutor’s order, to remove and care for the animals.
During the search of the residence, police seized 32 firearms of various types, including pistols, shotguns and air guns, as well as 7,477 rounds of ammunition, 2,700 metal pellets, three magazines, seven scopes and two laser targeting devices.
Officers also found five swords, dozens of knives and other items covered by firearms legislation, police said.
