A 53-year-old man was arrested in Piraeus on charges of possessing counterfeit banknotes and violating weapons legislation, police authorities announced.

Acting on information developed during a preliminary investigation, officers carried out a search of the suspect’s residence in the presence of a judicial official.

During the search, police seized 55 forged banknotes, ammunition including bullets and gun pellets, a flare gun, and a sword.

The individual has previously come to the attention of authorities for similar offenses, police said.

Following his arrest, he was taken to the competent public prosecutor’s office. A case file has been opened against him for counterfeiting currency and breaching firearms and weapons laws.
